Kailua Beach

The next day,  we went to Kailua Beach.   Here is how to get there by bus:   You take the route 57 at the bus stop (west bound) on AlaMoana Shopping Center.

1alamoanabusstop

The bus goes across the island and arrives at Kailua Shopping Center in 30 minutes.   You pass by the town and get off at the next stop.   You walk ahead a little.    Turn left and then walk about 15 min. along the Kailua Road.

In fact,  if you take the #70 bus, you don’t have to walk.    However, that bus comes only once every hour.    So I suggest #57.   The #70 bus goes to the Lanikai Beach, but then it has no public facilities.   On a map,  these two beaches are within walking distance.  I want to go there someday.   “Lani”  means heaven and “Kai” means ocean in Hawaiian language.

When you see Kailua Beach Center on the left, the beach will be right ahead.

The sea of Waikiki was aquamarine blue,  while the sea of Kaikua was emerald-green.   There were fewer people than in Waikiki.   I felt relaxed and refreshed by the beautiful ocean view and the sound of waves.

Scenery From The Trolley

Many trolleys (mostly Japanese travel agencies’ ones) and buses run in Waikiki.   Traffic is so heavy that I can’t drive a car in Honolulu.

JCB credit card holders can ride on the pink-line trolley for free.

The bus drivers weren’t very friendly.  On the other hand, the trolley drivers were so cheerful.  Some drivers were singing while driving.

Our Meals in Waikiki

First, we went to buy food at the “Food Pantry.”

There were interesting foods there.

Fruits were plentiful.

I prefer canned papaya.

How can I eat it ?

coconut

I like tropical fruit juice like guava, mango or passion fruit,  which are uncommon in Japan.  Also,  chocolate bars like Milky way or Twix are so delicious, but they aren’t sold in my town.   I miss them.

I tried to eat dragon fruit.  Hmm, it tasted like a kiwi fruit.

The cookies and cakes have different colors and shapes from the Japanese ones.

I think that the restaurants in Hawaii are more expensive than ones in Japan.   Why don’t you visit Japan?  Foods are cheap and delicious.  There was only a restaurant we went to that was familiar, it was called “Denny’s”.

My son liked the pancakes.

3lunch

I have no problem with American food, but my daughter was eager to eat Japanese food.  So,  I bought a broiled fish and fried dumplings to go at the Japanese restaurant “Ringer Hut”.

I like noodles.   There was always a line at the Japanese restaurant “Marukame Udon”on Kuhio Ave.  Why?

Hmm,  public telephones still exist.

Accommodation

We stayed at the condo hotel ” Waikiki Park Heights.”    The room wasn’t gorgeous, but cozy and neat.    The best thing about it was its location close to the beach and supermarket.

1waikikiparkheights

I chose a room with a kitchenette,  which costs less than one with a full kitchen.  It was suitable, for sure.  I didn’t want to cook during the trip.

2waikikiparkheights

I saw a bathtub that has a step for the first time.

My son fell off the bed every night.   He usually sleeps on a futon.

When I was waiting in the  laundry room,  I had a chat with a man who came from San Francisco.   He said the beaches in San Francisco were too cold to swim in.    I wonder if there are a lot of  Americans who haven’t swam in the sea because many states have no sea.   As for the beaches in the US,  only California and Florida come to  mind.

Waikiki Beach

I was so excited to see the beach!    Look at the blue sky and ocean!    There was a gradation in which the sea was deep blue turning emerald along the shallow coast.

waikiki2

I was so moved by the beautiful ocean because my town has no sea.

waikiki3

The sunlight was so strong that I couldn’t take photos  very well.

Many children were playing in the  water in the area inside of a breakwater.

You can rent a surfboard here.

What do you call this kind of tree?

waikiki9

The sun went down beautifully.

waikiki8

There was Hawaiian music and a dance show taking place at the beach.

Hawaiian girls were waiting for their turn backstage.

My Summer In Hawaii

Hello.  It’s been a while.  How are you doing?   I’m doing great.    I just came back from Hawaii!    My family spent four nights at Waikiki on Oahu island and three nights at Waikoloa on Big Island for the  summer holidays.   It was my first trip to Hawaii.   I was so impressed by the beautiful nature on the islands.   All of my family enjoyed the activities very much.   I’m now preparing to upload a lot of pictures.  So just wait.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday too!
